Insurance Coverage

Doula Support May Be Covered by Your Health Plan

I primarily work with families whose doula services are covered through Medi-Cal, participating Medi-Cal managed care plans, Contra Costa Health Plan, Alameda Alliance, SF Health Plan, Partnership Health Plan and Kaiser Permanente plans.

Coverage varies depending on the individual health plan, eligibility, service area, and authorization requirements. Before services begin, I verify both your insurance coverage and my availability for your estimated due date and location.

  • Two extended three-hour postpartum visits
  • In some circumstances, additional postpartum visits with a separate recommendation

Doula services may also include support related to miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion.

What a Doula Provides

A doula offers nonmedical physical, emotional, educational, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period.

My support may include:

  • Birth preparation and prenatal education
  • Help understanding options and preparing questions
  • Birth preference and birth-plan support
  • Comfort techniques and position changes
  • Continuous emotional and physical labor support
  • Support communicating your preferences to the medical team
  • Postpartum education, recovery support, and resource navigation

A doula does not replace your doctor, midwife, nurse, or other licensed medical provider. I do not diagnose medical conditions, perform clinical procedures, prescribe treatment, or make medical decisions for you. Medi-Cal describes doula care as nonmedical support available during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
